Domain Names for Your Team Website

Gain support, fans and even funding for your school or community team by picking the right team domain name. Though there are hundreds of thousands of sports teams in the world, often its about the same ten names that get used - and used for domain names. If your team name happens to be the Cougars, the Bears, or the anything-Sox, you may need a creative domain name to find one that hasn't been taken. Still, your domain name should be memorable and relevant to your team. Ask yourself:
  • Is it memorable? A catchy team domain is better even if it is a little longer; people remember meaningful words, not unusual abbreviations and numbers. "Sunnyside Colts" could be shortened to "Sunco" but sounds less like a team and more like a gas station.
  • If you do use an acronym, make sure it's the most logical for your team domain name: "SSColts" is more suitable a domain name than the above.
  • Is it relevant? Is the name of your team still featured in the domain? "Sunnyside Colts" could take the domain name "Sunstallions" but the domain name no longer matches the team name - and may be confusing. "SunnysideColtsLittleLeague" or "SunnysideColtsBaseball" is more logical.
  • Is it easy to spell? Even though intentional domain misspellings may seem cute or memorable, they often leave someone guessing how to "properly misspell" your team name.
